Hi,

If you were born in High Church in Glasgow then were you affiliated with a particular religion?

Hello Dennis,

High Church, Glasgow, is the actual name of a Registration District, for that part of Glasgow.

Regards,
Jonn.

Hi Deano,

Thanks for that:) Its just that I'm trying to find the religion of the parents of 5 children born there as it is apparently necessary to know in order to track where the parents were married in Ireland.

Do you have the post-1855 marriage of any of those children, as that will likely tell you. "According to the forms of the .........."

Best wishes

Hi Lesley,

The only child that lived long enough to marry did so in St. Rollock, Glasgow, Scotland.

I was looking at the birth record for Charles McKenna, the one referenced in the para above and it has his parents supposedly married on April 2nd 1860 in Glasgow. I've uploaded the birh record and will upload the 1892 marriage record for Charles McKenna & Jane Hammill when it is approved.

Thanks Frances:) The two urls referenced the same data and is why I deled the 2nd one. The one I'm awaiting is the 1892 marriage.

Hi Dennis:

I don't see a marriage cert awaiting approval, only the two separate files (tiff and jpg) of the birth cert.

Am I misunderstanding something?

Frances

Hello paddyscar:) I'd put up a 2nd birth record of just Charles, forgot that I should not be putting up the entire page. I was pretty sure I had upped the 1892 marriage as well; however, I just upped it a few minutes ago: McKenna-Hammill MC 1892.jpg

Marriage at

"....according to the forms of the Roman Catholic Church"
...so there is the answer to your query concerning which "flavour" church they belonged to.

Best wishes

Hello Dennis,

Its difficult to make out the mothers surname, but i am sure its intended to be Coonie, or Cooney, if you look at Charles Mckenna's, birth year 1863, to parents Charles Mckenna, and Hannah Cooney, this matches with Charles, age on the marriage, if you then take his occupation of Carter, on his marriage certificate, then you will find him on the 1881. census, 167 Garng Hill. with his widowed mother Hannah, as a Carter, if you then look again at the marriage you will see his father is deceased, there is only one birth in Scotland, in the timeframe, 1863. + 5 years, for a birth of a Charles Mckenna, to parents Charles, and Hannah.

His mother who is stated to be alive on the marriage, looks to have died in 1895. Glasgow, St Rollox, aged 51 years, under the names Hannah Cooney Mckenna.

I reckon the parents were married in Ireland.

Regards,
Jonn.
