Where is she?

Hi to all at TS,

Again i am after your help and wisdom.
I have family MacFarlane in the 1851 census (and the 1841) in Partick Lanarkshire.
The mother Margaret Christie and father Dugald McFarlane and one child Isabella were born in Perth.
I have downloaded the marriage cert of Margaret and Dugald 1837 in Perth her father's name is James but alas no mother's name.
I am trying to narrow down where in Perth Margaret Christie is from and thought if i get Isabella's birth cert it would say where she was born - i have searched for the following

But as you can see no mother or father which fits - i then thought maybe they were not married and tried Isabel Christie all records but no mother and father either.
Does anyone have any suggestions what i can do next? or indeed if anyone could look on ancestry it might throw it up.

Sorry if i go by the census she was 14 in 1851 which would make her born the year they were married 1837.

Hi Ailsa,
If you have the 1851 census, surely a more detailed place of birth will be given?
I see that in 1851 Margaret and Isabella were born in Dore Cotland, Perth. The younger children were born in Partick. Dugald was born in Dunning, Perth.

Now you just have to figure out where in the world Dore Cotland is

Hi SarahND,

I have been down this route - the place is called Dovecote land , but it is very hard to find it. Someone had it narrowed down to near Letham and North Inch but none of these areas are in the census under Perth.
The puzzling thing is i am doing a birth search on all areas for Isabella McFarlane and not coming up with her anywhere. It may be she was not Dougald's child but another husband! I do hope not as it's complicated enough.

Hi Ailsa,
I thought I had heard all this before!

Remember that not everyone is in the OPRs. Her parents may have belonged to another church, or the records may have been lost for that parish. Just because she doesn't show up, doesn't mean you have the parents wrong.

Hi Ailsa,

The 1890s Ordnance Survey map with coloured parishes shows Letham in Tibbermore parish, not far from North Inch (Perth parish).

Select sheet 48 - Perth

Towards the south-west corner of the map, Perth parish is coloured pink, and Tibbermore is coloured blue, and lies to the west of the north part of Perth parish.

Hi Ailsa

Dovecote land in Perth is bounded by the road from the bottom of Jeanfield road at the cemetry to the railway and is bounded by the railway on one side and riggs road on the other and stretches to the glasgow road the area within this rectangle was alway's known as dovecote land to us old codgers from Perth and I think this area came under Perth St Pauls but I shall check for you

Thanks Andrew P for the map - what a great site, i did a search of Tibbermore but no birth for either Margaret or Isabella turned up.
Bleckie, thanks for the info re Dovecote Land.
I have downloaded the census form for 1841 if anyone wants to have a look in the gallery.

Hi to all,
I have to report that i think this family McFarlane of mine must have had an aversion to registering anyone!!
I have spent my free credits looking for any birth records of the children that were born in Partick, Glasgow. That is Margaret,James,Dougald and Elisabeth - i put a search between 1838 - 1854 and came up with nought that fits parents Margaret or Dougald.
Could this have happened ? anyone.
