Hi
Please i hope someone can helpme please I have Patrick McMahon
born 1845 he married mary McLuskey 1881 in Kilmarnock Ayr
his parents were Patrick McMahon and Catherine Higgins i am trying to find information on Patrick and Catherine

Have you considered that they may have come from Ireland?

I have Patrick McMahon born 1845

Where did you find his year of birth?

Have you found any sign of Patrick and Catherine McMahon on any census? What about son Patrick's place of birth?

The Age of the son is based on his marriage he was 34 Catherine his
mother had passed away by then .

Have you found them on any of the censuses, to get a birthplace?

In 1881, were they married before or after census day? (Midnight of 3rd - 4th April).

I am not very good at finding things on Census my cousin
said Applemuir Renfrewshire i couldn,t locate anything . looks like Patrick the son was a coalminer . Is there a place called Hereford very hard to read the Writing. on the marriage.

This looks like a similar family - names, age of Patrick, occupation, placename etc. seem to be similar, but it does not tally with an 1881 marriage...!

Mary MC MAHAN wife aged 28 born Galston, Ayr, Scotland

Susan MC MAHAN 9 born Slater, Renfrew
Agnes MC MAHAN 5 born Hurlford, Ayr
Catherine MC MAHAN 4 born Hurlford, Ayr
Joseph MC MAHAN 6 m born Hurlford, Ayr

Jean, are you 100% sure that the marriage was in 1881? Who are the witnesses?

that is them thats the address on the marriage certificate
i wonder if he was married before he was 34 at the date of marriage .
is there anyway i can send you the certificate you maybe able to make it out better than me.

It is possible that the children in the 1881 may be from an earlier marriage - that may explain things. As all the children were born in Scotland it would be possible to check the mother's name by perhaps searching for the births on IGI and then on SP to confirm.

Hi Jean,

On looking at the family group Lesley found, and the marriage certificate, it looks like these are the children of his previous wife, who died between the birth of Catherine and the 1881 census. Patrick is listed as a widower on that marriage certificate.

Joseph is there on ScotlandsPeople, as Joseph McLuskey, born 1880.

At that time, Hurlford was in Riccarton registration district.

Patrick McMahon married Mary McCluskey The Catherine on there
makes sense as Patrick mother was Catherine Higgins .
are you able to find Patrick<s Parents . I will check the births
