Jane Sneddon

Post by Jean Jeanie » Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:09 pm

Hi All

I have uploaded Jane Sneddon's d.c. to the gallery.

I'm having trouble making out the informant's name.

Any suggestions?

Jean, that's difficult, with only the signature.

Definitedly James, but could it be Alexander?

James McLeod ?

Or McAleer.....

I know the M in James isn't the same as the starting letter - but it also looks as if he was having difficulty writing, uncustomed to a fountain pen perhaps?

Have you any idea of who husband he was? o figure it out from a marriage perhaps.

Any chance it might be Mitchell? (Or is my eye test way overdue  )

Hi Jean,

At first glance I thought it was Marshall...really difficult to say what it might really be. :?

Like Mary and Lesley I'd go for Mitchell.

In 1851 & 1861 Jane/Jean is with husband David at Bothwell. I can't find her in 1871.

There are a couple of James Mitchells at Armadale in 1871.

Annette

I saw that one too Anne and, what appears to be, that couple are living at Armadale in 1871 with Margaret's mother. Only thing is her name is Ann and she was born at Shotts in 1810. Jane says she was born at Kilbride in 1796.

Only a look at the marriage will tell.

Annette

Hi All

I have that m.c. from Scotlandspeople.

Margaret is one of mine, married indeed to James Mitchell

Margaret's mother was Ann Sneddon born in Shotts in 1809 who married a Richard Sneddon (origins unknown)

Jane's husband's father David born abt 1801 is Ann's uncle!

Did James Mitchell get confused about whose son in law he was!!!!!

To confuse matters further, James Mitchell's mother was a Helen Sneddon!

I need to sit down with this lot and try and piece them together, after the 4 grandkids have gone home.

They had me up at 6.30 this morning. Oh the joys!

Best wishes
Jean
