Birth of John Smith McPhail

Post by MaureenEdna » Wed Jan 07, 2009 5:17 pm

Hi
For a few years now I have been looking for my fathers Birth place,so thought I would give this web site a go as was recommended to me.
My father was John Smith McPhail as far as i know he was born 17Th August 1907,his parents were Archibald McPhail d.o.b.1874 & Christina Craig Smith d.o.b.1874 they were married 1902 in Govan,Lanarkshire.Archibalds address was given as 4 Elphinstone Street,
Govan,Christinas 33 Robert Street,Govan. They had their first child in Patrick,Lanarkshire in 1904 but can't find my Dad there.I have a strange memory of my Dad saying he was born in Bloom Street,Belfast,Ireland
but no luck there,i know Grand-dad Archibald was Living at 36 Stafford Street,Bootle,Liverpool,Lancashire in 1935 when my Dad got married but have no idea when he arrived there so i have this gap,I'm getting quite excited and can't wait for the 1911 census to discover were they landed.
Any advice would be great as were to go from hear.

Thanks for reading this
Maureen

Welcome to Talking Scot

Have you looked at the births on Scotlands People website? [link at the top of the page]

There are a few John McPhails born in 1907, you should search for M*Phail to pick up the Mc/Mac variations.

Thanks for your reply.I'm not sure if this is the way to reply,I'm a bit confused with the way the boards work.
In earlier census he was recorded as Fleshers apprentice,on Archibalds marriage certificate he is recorded as a Butcher for his occupation.
