Help in search for death cert please
Hi,
I am looking for some advice on how to look for a death on SP - i am looking for Margaret McFarlane born Dunning Perth - i can't find her birth cert. She was married 16/1/1837 in Perth to Dougall McFarlane Baker. Her father was James Christie weaver - no mother mentioned.
They moved to Partick in Glasgow and had six children -
Dougall McFarlane died 17/10/1856 in Partick Glasgow. Isabella the eldest daughter married in 1857 to William Thomson in PERTH although both of their addresses were in Partick Glasgow.
I thought i had found her with the following
2 1889 CHRISTIE MARGARET WILSON MCFARLANE F 70 PERTH /PERTH 387/00 0454 VIEW (PAID
But it wasn't her and i think maybe i could improve how i am doing my search, any ideas gratefully received.

I'm not at all convinced that Nelmit isn't on the right trail with this one. That is an awful lot of coincidences....places of birth...years of birth...occupations....etc that fit nicely. Ailsa you mention that they had 6 children....would you mind listing them and the years of birth please? Have you attempted to trace marriages for any other than Isabella? There certainly is no sign of the Stoker census group after 1861 but what if they returned to Mr Stoker's native County Down???
Thinking cap is still on...
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean,
I think she is still in Perth in 1861 - i have done a search on SP but there are a few Margaret M**farlan* coming up age 40.
I also done a search for Margaret in Milton 1861 but only one comes up and she is age 30.
I am getting confused now myself
I could not find any births of the children in Partick - have to rely on the census for ages. Only Isabella as she was born in Perth.

Well...it's just that Isabella and family are not in Perth in 1861...so why would mum Margaret return there all alone???

And if the weans with the Stoker family in 1861 are not the right McFarlanes then who are they and where do they disappear to? The fact that the relationships are stated as son in law etc are not conclusive at all.....I've seen more than one step child called an in-law before! The fact that no marriage is found for Margaret to Mr Stoker doesn't mean anything either....maybe they had an irregular marriage and never recorded it...or maybe they only called themselves married. Then of course there is brother James as an apprentice baker....isn't it only logical that his little brother Dougall might just possibly have the same occupation??

Hi Jean,
I definitely think it is the children i am looking for. I was confused that there was a Margaret age 40 on a census i was given and then the Stoker couple. It could be her with him. As you say it's just proving it.
James is my gt gt gt grandfather and he was married in Belfast in 1871.
Thanks for the interest,
Ailsa

It was the fact that Dougall's father was a baker too that drew me to this one.JustJean wrote:Well...it's just that Isabella and family are not in Perth in 1861...so why would mum Margaret return there all alone???

Just seen this so it looks as though Jean's hunch that the family moved to Ireland was right.crayspond wrote:Hi Jean,
