can't find birth/mar certs on SP.....

Post by nancy » Mon Jul 18, 2005 7:38 pm

Help someone please!!! Going round in circles, spending credits and getting nowhere! On hubbies gramps (THOMAS SEATON) BC it gives GR/gr (ARCHIBALD DUNCAN SEATON)marr as 5/DEC/1865PAISLEY. I can't find either marr or birth cert for him.Wife was Margt Reid. I found him on 1891Census as Lodger aged 53. I then checked IGI and found.FAMILY GROUP RECORD as follows: Husband THOMAS SEATON. Wife JANE CURDY. Children ARCHIBALD DUNCAN SEATON. B about 1838 GOVAN,LANARK. Death,5th AUG 1891,BARLINNIE POOR HOUSE,LANARK. I can't find anything on his parents Thomas and Jane either. I checked poorhouses on web but couldn't find info on Barlinnie one.Any suggestions? Hope I'm exlaining things properly.I've been at pc too long, off to watch corrie, relax with cuppa, and be back with you in an hour or so!Thanks

The IGI shows the 1865 marriage, extracted frpom the certificates, but I see no sign of it on ScotlandsPeople for 1865-1866. Try sending a contact form to ScotlandsPeople, suggesting it is missing from the records given the matching evidence of from the son's BC and the IGI.
  • ARCHIBALD DUNCAN SEATON - MARGARET REID - International Genealogical Index
Marriage: 05 DEC 1865 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
In the meantime, it may be quicker for you to see the other copy of the certificate that should be in the Registrar's office in Paisley.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Nancy,

Don't know if you have this, but it might be difficult finding anything on Jane CURDY - she appears to have died before the census in June 1841.
Hubby Thomas has re-married by October of that year.
So G-GF Archibald had a few half brothers & sisters.

Hello Nancy,

the marriage is there, but indexed under Seaton and Glen, since Margaret was a widow. Please submit a contact form, since it should have been indexed under Reid as well.

A search on just Seaton, Renfrew, 1865 finds it.

Regards,

John

Hello Nancy,

If you check Archibald's death entry on Scotlands People I'm pretty sure you will find he died in Barnhill Poorhouse.

You can view these poorhouse applications at The Mitchell Library in Glasgow. They can be really informative. I've posted one of mine in the gallery - http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-69.

Some branches of Sporran's Cavan McCurdys moved to Ayr and become Curdy and McCurdie.

We only have one son to an Alexander McCurdy of Cavan, Samuel born about 1805. Samuel didn't arrive in Ayrshire until much later though.

Other Argyll and Bute McKirdys also became Curdys. I'll try to contact Shane (the McCurdy Guru) to see if he has a Seaton/Curdy anywhere in his files.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
