No everything is spot on as far as data.
It gave me 5 deaths from 1982/84/2001(2)/2005 but not the 1958.
I had to spend more credits to verify that I had it right.
The only difference is that the 5 it gave me are not available on line.
I thought this was the idea of parent /mothers maiden name search.!!

Hi Maureen
I'd need to go and have a fiddle to see if this is the case...!
Best wishes
Lesley
I wonder if that is the reason then...? Is the mother's maiden name included as part of the summary data if the record is available to be viewed in full on line? Perhaps the mother's maiden name is only included for the post 1958 deaths (those for whch there is only the index)? The only difference is that the 5 it gave me are not available on line.

Not sure if this helps or not:

Important: The availability and treatment of the mothers maiden surname is dependant on the year(s) searched:
1. Searches 1855-1958 (records more than 50 years old)
If you enter a mother's maiden surname and this information has not yet been indexed, the record will not be found. To ensure that all entries where the mother's maiden surname has not yet been captured in the index are returned, please check the Include Unrecorded Mother's Maiden Surname box. Be aware that this may greatly increase the number of possible matches.
2. Searches 1959-2006 (records less than 50 years old)
For security reasons, restrictions have been placed on modern deaths index searches which include the Mothers Maiden Surname, and on the results of such searches.
Restrictions are as follows:
1959-1973
If you enter a mother's maiden surname, the record will not be returned because this information has not yet been added to the index.
All records returned will show Not Permissible in the Mothers Maiden Surname column, although the information will be visible on any extract ordered (if known by the informant).
1974-2006
Mothers maiden surname is present in the index for these years.
As a security measure, wildcards are not allowed - if you enter a mothers maiden surname, it must be an exact match for the information in the database or the record will not be returned.
If you search without entering the mothers maiden surname, all records returned will show Not Permissible in the Mothers Maiden Surname column, although the information will be visible on any extract ordered (if known by the informant).

The mother's maiden name only appears on a reliable basis in the 1855 inxdex and the indexes from 1976 onwards. For the period 1856 to 1975 when the registers arrived in Edinburgh, the mother's maiden name wasn't included in the index.
Where resources permit the info is being added to the indexes, but it's a major task.
The same comment applies to mother's maiden name in the birth indexes from 1929 onwards (1928 for some registration districts).

Think I have the answer.
On the 1958 death cert the mothers maiden name is entered as a 2nd Forename
I.e. Surname Mathie , Forename James Malcolm the other later ones are all listed as Malcolm in the Mothers Maiden name column although one of the Daughters is listed as Malcolm as a 2nd Forename and as mothers maiden name.
All I was trying to find was their births by going back from their Deaths and I can't find two of them !!!!!!!!
Cheers.
