Hello all,
I have the death cert for my 2nd Great Gran Catherine Clark. she was married to John Clark a coachman. I see burial place is Southern necropolis and undertaker is Henry Lawson and son ( who were still doing a booming business in 1870 according to the post office directory) Seems Mr. Lawson had his hands in a number of pies.... Undertakers, Carriage Hirers, Job and Postmasters, Bait and Livery Stable Keepers.
Under the heading for informant I am fairly sure it isn't her husband John Clark . Can anyone read what it says? I thought possibly Dugald Lawson ( perhaps 1 of Mr. Lawson's sons from the prestigious firm) if so what does it give on second line for Residence. Quite a few to choose from 11 years later in 1870... Newton Street,Charing Cross; Main Street, Anderston; West Campbell Street,St. Vincent Lane, Eglington Street, Calton;Queen Street and Eagle Stables Maxwell Street.
Any guesses anyone???
Thanks,
Heather

'20 Cambridge Street, Glasgow.'
'Present' means just that, - in the household where the death took place at the time of the death.
For a private individual acting as informant, the lack of an address different from that where the death took place means that they were resident at the address where the death took place. This doesn't apply for an official such as the Procurator Fiscal !

I agree that is states 20 Cambridge Street. The 1861 census has some of the family at 28 Cambridge St.
I couldn't see Sinclair at all but there is this likely looking Dugald Sinclair in 1861 -
Name: Dugald Sinclair
Age: 23
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1838
Relationship: Son
Mother's Name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Inishail, Argyllshire
Registration Number: 644/6
Registration district: Blythswood
Civil Parish: Glasgow St George
County: Lanarkshire
Address: 13 Cambridge Lane
Occupation: City Coach Driver
I also noticed that one of John and Catherine's daughters was named Catherine St Clair Clark.
Regards,
Annette

Thanks Annette,
I hadn't put the Sinclair and St. Claire together but was wondering about Kate's middlename. Its certainly not a family name. John Clark and his father were both coachmen so the occupation of Dugald seems to imply a friend and with kate's middlename perhaps a close one.
Ta muchly everyone on your help here,
Heather
