Help with wildcard search

Post by crayspond » Sat Feb 28, 2009 1:10 pm

Hi,

Can anyone help me with a wildcard search? I am looking for the birth of Jane Mitchell born c 1842/3 i think in Glasgow. Parents are Daniel Mitchell (sometimes mistaken for David) and Mary Niblock.
I had some success a while ago with census lookups and found Jane in the 1851 census age 8 in Calton Glasgow.
I have tried familysearch and SP but think i need to narrow it down - i tried m**ch** but came up with odd names and one Mitchell !!

Hi Ailsa,

I did a search for (no first name) Mi*c*el* with one parent as Mary N*b*l* and that produced only one result, which looks like Mary's older sister Catherine in 1830.

I wonder if there is any surviving record of Jane's birth or baptism.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi AndrewP,

I am trying to fill in my family tree chart and i am purchasing the certs as i go along. I am unable to get Jane's death cert as they went to America in 1883, i managed to track them down with great help from SarahND and i have the census returns and lots of info on them. However, we could find no trace of her death cert in America. As it stands now i have no birth or death cert for her. A bit of a mystery woman.
Thanks for looking for me,

Ailsa

Hi Ailsa,
So you tried the library at the link I gave you in the other post:

http://www.naplibrary.com/NAPLGenealogy.htm

and they couldn't find her death cert?

Looks like her birth record doesn't survive.

Regards,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the prompt! i did email them back in Feb 2008, i was given this link phutchin@town.adams.ma.us and emailed the details. I had no reply and had forgotten about it until you mentioned it. I will duly resend the email.
