Hello everyone
One of my rellies travelled to Canada (Toronto)and back (we think twice) between 1915 and 1950. We think he may also have got married over there as I can't find any record of his marriage certificate over here. His name was James Cameron B1899 and his wife was Elizabeth Campbell. Just looking for the best place to start to find out when he travelled and also to see how or where about I can start to look for his marriage certificate in Canada.
Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart,
Have you checked out the links for Canada here?
http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10349
Otherwise, Ancestry has Canadian passenger lists and Ontario marriages up to 1924. There is no obvious marriage in that database-- is it likely that his marriage occurred after 1924? If so, then it is not worth paying for Ancestry. There are a couple of possible James Camerons on both the boats arriving in Canada and those going back to the U.K. You might well find him on those. Without knowing his birth place, occupation, etc. I can't tell which ones are likely.
All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
If you have a wee minute he was born in Kirkstall, Leeds on 26.07.1899 and he was an Engineer (we think) and also he was a Justice of the Peace!! just found that one out so another think to investigate.
Can't keep up here, just asked my mum what his job was and found out that their daughter Flora was born in Canada about 1933 or 1934.
Cheers

The UK passenger list emigration records at www.findmypast.com would be my first 'port of call' !

Hi Stuart,
Thanks, the addition of Flora has simplified matters. There were all too many voyages by one James Cameron, an actor
Might they have been living at 31 Vermont Street, Glasgow?
If so, James was a "Fitter" on at least one of his voyages.
Let me know if you think this is the right one.
Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah
Yes Jimmy (James) lived in Vermont Street, the clan home!!! and fitter also makes sense, he later worked in Rolls Royce in Hillington. Just looking at a picture he must have sent home from Canada, written on the back, Lord Muck in his Chevrolet. (1928)

Great photo!
Was he about 5'10" tall, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair and gray eyes? If so, I think I might have found him crossing over to Detroit in 1923. He is headed for "MCA Detroit". Googling tells me that is the Mechanical Contractors Association, which seems to fit. Also, his closest friend in Canada is Mr Harper. Elizabeth's name on the passenger list is Elizabeth Harper Cameron. So... it is sounding good to me. By the way, you're sure her maiden name was Campbell, rather than Harper?
Regards,
Sarah
