Hamilton/Allan - Help deciphering...please

Post by Anne H » Sat Apr 04, 2009 1:15 am

Would you believe I just found two for the price of one. [woohoo]

Looking for clues to try to decipher the residence for Robina and John I looked at the entry above and lo and behold, there is her brother Robert Allan marrying on the same day. Unfortunately, I still can't make out where any of them resided.

When the image in the gallery is approved, could someone take a look and give me a clue. Looks like Nappiefaulds, Parish of Falkirk but nothing is coming up for me. Tried Napier, Nasser, Nassiefaulds, etc., but nothing.

Also, what does it say for where they were married _________, Parish of Falkirk?

Thanks for any help.

Regars,
Anne H

Looks like Nappie Faulds to me  But where and what that is, is another question!

Cheers,
Sarah

There are people living at Nappiefaulds in the 1881 census. It is in the Falkirk Landward registration district, so that would help find it on the old maps if you want to try. I have to go see to dinner :D

Hi Anne,

Try googling: nappiefaulds, Scotland

I got six hits. One is about peatlands. Another is a picture of Nappiefaulds House, Falkirk

Well done, Carol! That's a great picture.

Now why, when I googled the first time, did I only get things about folding nappies?!

Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I got the nappies too when I tried Nappiefaulds  I must have been doing something wrong.

Thanks for pointing out the 1881 census...I do believe I've found a few more Allan's.

Hope you enjoyed your dinner! :)

Hi Carol,

Many thanks and well done from me too. =D>

Great photo and looking at the 1881 census it appears that it would have been the boss at the coal mines living there. Occupants of Nappiefaulds House was the coal master and family. Also thought for a minute I'd Found Robert and Robina's sister Jessie as a servant at the house, but this one was born in Fife, so not her.

Now that both of you have been so successful, can you make out what it says for their place of marriage? :?

Anne H

Hi Anne,
Again in 1881 there are a number of people whose address is "Peaweep Row". In the cert it looks like they have put it in the plural and all in one word making it Peaseweeprow.

That's what I see, anyway!
Cheers,
Sarah

Thanks, Sarah! =D>

You have very good eyesight. To me the first one looked like it started with Pee...and the second with Pad... guess I need new glasses.

Now that I've had a look at the census it looks like they might have been married in a relative's house (Thomson...same ms as the mother).

Thanks heaps! :D
