Macleod missing records,where next ?

My Grandfather Alexander Macleod born 1868 in Muckairn Nr Oban was born illigitimate to a Catherine Macleod.
On his Marr. Cert his Mother was given as Catherine Mckenzie. previously Macleod. MS. Macleod.and his Father given as Malcolm Macleod.
On his death Cert.His Mother was Catherine Macleod subsequently Mckenzie MS Macleod.
I've tried to find anything on Malcolm Macleod, but with no luck .It seems any Parish Records for Muckairn do not excist
could anyone perhaps advise where else to look
