Dear Fellow Searchers,
I have some questions. First, which documents should I search for?
I recently received an email from my cousin who is in Australia. I live
in Southern California. We have not seen each other since we were very young.
My mother (Winnie Neilson Robin) was born in Glasgow Scotland. The Robin family
are from Glasgow, Scotland.
My cousin thought that I may have information on his father's burial site.
Unfortunately all our known family and our parents are deceased.
He has his father's death certificate but it does not indicate
place of burial.
We are looking for Arthur John Robin.
My uncle's information: Merchant Seaman R109897
ROBIN, Arthur John
born 20 - Mar - 1915 Glasgow, Scotland
died 25 - Apr - 1953 at Seaman's Hospital Greenwich, Kent, England
Would it help if I get our grandparents death certificates?
William Robin Jr. (1874 - 1963) Marion Cameron Mason (1882 - 1972)
Has anyone come across any Robin family grave sites?
Would their death certificates indicate the place of interment?
My uncle might have been buried near them in the same cemetery.
It's just an idea since we are not even sure if my uncle was buried
in England or Scotland.
We have to start somewhere but where?
Would the Seaman's Hospital of Greenwich release any documents such as
'release of remains' that may indicate where the body was transported to
for example a mortuary?
Any suggestions on where to start and which documents to look through
would be most helpful.
Thank you for your precious time!
Sincerely,
Karola

Hi Karola
and welcome to Talking Scot
My thinking would be that the best place to start would be the Seaman's Hospital at Greenwich which you mentioned. This looks like it may be it:
http://www.seahospital.org.uk
in the hope that they migth have some information as to the burial place, or even if they had not of the undertakers name that may be a start.
best wishes

Re: Robin Family Glasgow, Scotland
Lesley,
Thank you for your help and suggestions.
I have contacted Greenwich Seaman's Hospital and
the Council they in turn referred me on.
Waiting for two more responses. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I received a copy of my Uncle Arthur's death certificate and
I noticed that my grandmother was the informant.
So she must have made the arrangements for burial.
So my thinking that she would have brought him home
to Scotland to be buried. Every little clue helps!
It's really late here so I'm going to have a hot cup of tea
and relax a little!
Thank you again.

Re: Robin Family Glasgow, Scotland
We have found my Aunt Hannah Robin.
A dear person searched the records at the Mitchell library
found that my grandfather had purchased a lair in Cardonald Cemetery.
Found a grave stone with Hannah and two infants
William and Alfred. So we may be getting closer
to finding my Uncle's grave,
Also my cousin found through memeto mori more family.
Great Grand Aunt (Kitty) Catherine Robin and a James and possibly one more!

Re: Robin Family Glasgow, Scotland
On checking the names and records I don't think the Robins at St. Ninian's are our Grand Aunt Catherine. There seems to be a Robin family that lived in Stirling who were wool manufactures. Our Robins were engineers, Master gunpowder manufacture, wine and spirit merchants and leather merchant.
The search goes on!
