Robert or Peter Learmonth ?

Post by littaol » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:54 am

Dear all

This is a follow-up on subject about Jessie (Janet) Learmonth. (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=14814)

At the wedding of Jessies father Robert Learmont (22) to Agnes Hogg in 1867 his parents are Robert Learmonth and Jane Learmonth, born Taylor. Robert still living, Jane deceased.

Looking for his birth I found a match in Prestonkirk, 31.08.1845, but the parents names are not exactly right  It also seems that a brother is mentioned on the same page. http://www.loslekt.com/misc/RA.png

I have 2 questions: Can this be the right Robert ? -and can someone help me interpret what it says about when Andrew is born ?

I have had difficulties finding Robert and Jane(t) in the census, but I find Peter and Jane :) (Both of them in 1861, only Peter in 1871)

I can't help you determine if you have the right birth but I can read the extract you posted:

Robert son of Peter Learmouth and
Jane Taylor Born at Linton 31 August
1845 and baptised 4 weeks after before
the congregation.

Andrew Taylor son of Peter Learmouth
and Jane Taylor his wife Born at Linton
20 April 1847 and baptised about 4 weeks
after before the congregation.

A couple of ways to check if you have the right parents in Peter and Jane.

What was Robert's address in 1867 and did he give his father's occupation as a miller?

Roberts address at the wedding was 5 Haugh Street, Edinburgh and both his and his father's occupation was 'miller'.

I guess the groom was nervous. :)

I'd go for you having the right birth especially as Robert named his first son Peter.

I wonder what Robert gives as his father's name on his 2nd marriage entry?

What a splendid idea!

His father's name is.................Peter :D

Sometimes the solution is more simple than one expects.

Thanks Annette !
