Re: Thomas McNaught
Hello Shona,
I was just curious as to where the information that he was born in 1749 in Larkhall came from. Was this event in a particular parish and was the then spelling of his name the same as you’ve given? I guess he probably didn’t survive to 1855.
Do you have any other information about him, marriage, children, death details, etc that would help to identify him as an individual?
All the best,
Alan

Hello Shona,
If the 1749 date is about right then the 1790 fellow isn’t likely to be him.
I think Larkhall is in the parish of Dalserf. The OPR records there aren’t nearly as complete as they could be. This book from the 1840s describes their condition. http://books.google.com.au/books?id=E01 ... 22&f=false
Unless I’ve fumbled the search on SP the only Thomas Mc* or Mac* baptism they have for Dalserf between 1740 and 1760 is a Thomas McCreight in 1750. I haven’t checked the full index record. I can’t see him on the IGI as the batch appears to be one of those female-only ones.
Maybe that one is worth a look? It would probably be a good idea to find out exactly where the 1749 information came from and what exactly it said.
All the best,
Alan
