Re: Philip Mcrae
hi Maggie:
I searched philip m*rae death date 1861 - 1867 and came up with only one death. Adding Dalkeith to the search stll gives one death. Unfortunately, I don't have any active credits.
Looking on IGI http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true there is a listing for marriage of Agness Kerr and Phillip Mcrae 06 MAR 1825 Peebles, Peebles, Scotland.
No death for him there though.
Hope this is it.
Frances

Re: Philip Mcrae
I'm sure he'll be the one that Frances found in 1861 at Dalkeith.

Re: Philip Mcrae
Hi Maggie:
Glad it was him. Those little stars cover a multitude of errors and misconceptions. They are always handy when there is any option of alternative spellings. Many of the mistakes are due to misunderstanding between persons with varying accents and someone writing what they 'think' they hear.
Also, unschooled individuals often knew how to sign their name, but were not actually able to read, so they would have missed any errors on forms etc., Unfortunately, not all databases allow that type of search, but fortunately, ScotlandsPeople had the foresight to include that option.
