Hoping someone might have a fresh approach on this one.
Looking for a death of John Murdoch born circa 1825, Gorbals.
He married Jane McMillan, their last child (that I'm aware of) Joseph William Murdoch was born 13 October 1867.
Another son, Archibald Murdoch, marries 9 December 1875. On the marriage register, John is listed as deceased.
Seems like this should be relatively easy to find with the combination of his birth date and the span between the birth of his son Joseph (less 9 months of course) and the marriage of Archibald.
Unless the date of birth is pointing me in the wrong direction - no death can be found.
Any ideas will be appreciate.

Hi Heather
I just had a sneeky peek at the birth certificate for John and Jane's daughter Jane Murdoch who was born in 1855 (I'm sure you have this) and it lists father John as being 28 years old making his birth year nearer 1827 - I know it's not much of a difference but you never know. I also noted that the birth of his daughter Mary was registered in Leith. Is it possible he moved about a bit or had rellies in Leith? Not much to go on but just a thought.
Good luck with your search

Re: John Murdoch
Hello Heather,
sound advice from Annette not to trust ages. The family were in Greenock for the 1871 census, and Jane (recorded as Mrs Murdock) was a widow. With the youngest children also born in Greenock, it seemed likely that John would have died there. A search on John Murdoc? of all ages between 1867 and 1871 brings up 7, and your man should be obvious.
Jane also died in Greenock in 1884.
Regards,
John
