Just a quick word here HeatherV.It's my experience that most countries didn't care who left and many countries taking in people only cared if they could support themselves. It depends on the years you want to know about and the country. If you want to post this it might help .

Birth Certificate

Post by Alcluith » Tue Jan 04, 2005 5:10 pm

Heatherv

I have a lot of birth certificates without the father listed.

The mother or informant would have been given a copy of the birth certificate.

Robert may have been passed that copy certificate or if he didn't have it he would have easily been able to get a copy.

Given that there is no other reference to his father on later certificates then your only hope was that the family were religious and that Jane was broguht before the elders of the church although this usually happened pre 1856 registration.
As with a lot of cases it may just have to be one of those unsolved mysteries.

James FULTON, son, u/m 22, scholar, b Colmonell [was as scholar - error?]
Robert FULTON, gr-son, 3, ------- b Colmonell

Don't know how Alexander PATERSON as son fits in. Seems he is on the 1851 Colmonell census aged 14yrs - not too sure who he's living with, but it's near to a Robert MILROY & family.
In 1861, possibly him again in Colmonell - he is aged 25, and probably with a William PATERSON age 76, Gilbert MILROY 34 and a few other MILROYs.
-------
This *might* be Jane in 1861 - age on the young side though - but the MILROYs seem in some way connected to the FULTONs. Employers, friends?

1861 cens 582 Ed 7 pg 4 (Colmonell)
Drumskeoch.
Living with and working for Gilbert MILROY 64, farmer of 326 acres, born Barr.

[William is in Maybole age 15 in 1861 with parents? Edward & Janet]

Jack

Thanks for the thoughts.

Re :

Daltangan Knowe, Alexander Paterson is the son of Elizabeth McWhirter (Fulton) , from a previous relationship before she married Robert Fulton.
The Milroy's were family, once again on the the side of Elizabeth McWhirter. I've resolved myself to trying to see if any light can be shed on this by checking the Kirk Session Records.

Kindest Regards,

Heather
