HI Have hit a (*,) Looking for Alexander Elliot b. 1989/9 Wolverhampton. Have been working England but now think it may be Scotland his brother David was b. 1900 Castleside [Lence my search] . I take it Alexander was born 1889/90 rather than 1989/9 (or his mother was a remarkable woman with the birth of another son in 1900).

I assume you got your information from the 1901 census, in which case Alexander's father was Alexander, not David.

In the 1911 census, they are in Castleside, Consett, County Durham as parents and 8 children (plus two more children, deceased before the 1911 census).

Since Alexander was the eldest child, there is always the possibility that his birth pre-dated the marriage and that he was registered under his mother's surname. Sure enough...

The birth of an Alexander Elliot Hetherington was registered 2nd quarter 1898 Wolverhampton district, Staffordshire

Then... Alexander Elliot married Frances Bowater Hetherington in 3rd quarter 1898 in Tynemouth district, Northumberland
