Confusing Craigs.....

I've been doing a bit of work on the Craig side of the family tonight.

Have found the marriage of James Craig b1826 to Elizabeth BURT (his 2nd cousin) in 1865, Falkirk. And found on the 1871 census.

Then went looking for his brother's marriage:
found John Berry Craig b1823 married Elizabeth BIRD in 1852 Falkirk, on SP and IGI.

great methinks, going well So go looking for children for them.
No children for James and Elizabeth on the IGI...ran out of credits on SP...and no children on the census, though they may have grown up by then.

John Berry Craig and Elizabeth are proving weird. I have 3 births of children for father JOHN, all with mother CHRISTINA BURT.

No death found for Elizabeth of course, date too late for SP
I have found John and Christina on the 1871 census, soooo!! Either he remarried or Elizabeth BIRD and Christina BURT are the same person.

Any thoughts please, I'm confused

Can you give us a few more details please?

Elizabeth BURT - what age was she at her marriage & who were her parent's?
Where was she born on the 1871 census?

John Berry Craig - have you found him with a wife on a census?

Is this your James in 1881?

Elizabeth BURT born c1837 married 1865, residence Camelon (actually I thought it said Camden)
Parents Andrew and Margaret nee Craig
1871 census, says ? sorry can't read, Falkirk.
Nice to see they had a daughter too. Thank you for that.

John and Christina are the ones I have on the 1871 census.

The marriage I downloaded of John Berry Craig and Elizabeth BIRD is definately the right one though...his parents were John Craig and Jean nee Berry. So where does Christina Burt fit in?

Check Margaret's birth cert from 1855. It will have the date of the parents' marriage, if this was anywhere near 24th Oct 1852 then Elizabeth Bird and Christina Burt are probably the same person, particularly if Margaret was, say, the second or third baby born to Elizabeth/Christina.

Also check if this tallies with children born to the father. If it's his third child but her first then it's likely that Elizabeth Bird died and he remarried Christina Burt.

Andy has a great theory about families not straying too far from each other.

Perhaps too much information at present but who knows when you have them all straightened out

Hi sorry for the delay folks, just got up and off to work soon, so I'll reply properly later.
A couple of thoughts though...
The children of Andrew and margaret Craig..

Bettie Stevenson Burt could be the Elizabeth who married James Craig, the birthdate date is out by 5 years or so as she was 28 on the cert, but that nothing new in this business.

Which means John Berry Craig could have married her sister Christian.

Thanks folks, I think I've got this sussed now, amazing what a few suggestions and a few more credits will do.

Margaret Craig born 9th Jan 1855, father John Craig, mother Christina Craig ms Burt, 2nd child (1 boy dead) married 1852 Camelon.

Which means that the PR has been mis-transcribed!!!!
Is there anyone I should let know about this? SP?
