I was also born in 11 Randolph Crescent, back in 1939. It was a fairly upmarket Nursing Home at that time and I think the main workload was maternity. I never knew the names of any of the nurses there but the obstetrician who attended my mother was Dr. Sturrock. I think the premises remained as a Nursing Home till some time after the war.

The was an episode of "The Secret History of Our Streets: Scotland" which was broadcast last year on the Moray Estate in Edinburgh. I cannot remember which house they showed that had been a nursing home. Apparently they have a lift large enough to take a trolley between floors and what is now the kitchen was the operating theatre which was tiled to a level to prevent blood spatter and the floor sloped to a drain for cleaning. It was a fascinating episode full of quirky residents and worth looking out for if it is repeated.

The episode of "The Secret History of our Streets" concerning the Moray Estate (including Randolph Crescent) is on YouTube, split into two halves, of just under 30 minutes each.
