I was also born in 11 Randolph Crescent, back in 1939. It was a fairly upmarket Nursing Home at that time and I think the main workload was maternity. I never knew the names of any of the nurses there but the obstetrician who attended my mother was Dr. Sturrock. I think the premises remained as a Nursing Home till some time after the war.

The was an episode of "The Secret History of Our Streets: Scotland" which was broadcast last year on the Moray Estate in Edinburgh. I cannot remember which house they showed that had been a nursing home. Apparently they have a lift large enough to take a trolley between floors and what is now the kitchen was the operating theatre which was tiled to a level to prevent blood spatter and the floor sloped to a drain for cleaning. It was a fascinating episode full of quirky residents and worth looking out for if it is repeated.
