Deed?

Post by RonJohnNOLA » Fri Jun 29, 2012 4:55 am

On a sheet from 1870 in Dalmellington, Ayrshire registering marriages, most of the parents names have this next to their names:

Code: Select all

(Deed.)
Could it actually be the abbreviation for deceased? The reason I ask is that 5 of the 8 parents are marked that way, which seems a really high rate, even for 1870. :?

Hi Ron,

Have another look at these. It is more likely (decd.) or (decd.), the normal abbreviation for deceased.

All the best,
