I have found a newspaper piece reporting the death of my ancestor Miss Christina Muir in Auchtermuchty, Fife.
The newspaper is dated Friday 22nd December 1939, it gives her age as 82. It states her address in Muchty also.
I cannot find the death certificate on Scotlands People. Any ideas?

Re: Cannot find death certificate
Hello scottmm65 and welcome to Talking Scot
Does the obituary say she actually died in Auchtermuchty or just that she was a long-time resident? There is a female Muir age 82 who died in Thornton, Fife (only 11.5 miles away from Auchtermuchty according to google maps) in 1939 but her name was Catherine
It's late and my brain is going, but maybe someone in an earlier time zone can figure this out while I sleep! I did look also in 1940, in case the death was not registered until after the first of the year, but no luck there either...
All the best,
Sarah

Re: Cannot find death certificate
Hi there,
I had a look at the death certificate for Catherine Muir (82) in Thornton. All three of the entries on that page share the same address in Thornton, all reported by John Ballantine, Occupier. Catherine's usual address was in Auchtermuchty. As the informant was not a relation of the deceased, this probably increases the chance of him making a mistake with her name (registering at least 3 people on that one date).
A bit of Googling the address in Thornton leads to Dysart Combination Poorhouse in Thornton in the parish of Markinch.

When set up, Dysart Combination Poorhouse was for the people of the combined parishes of Markinch, Dysart and Wymess; later joined by Leslie. Had Christina got links back to any of these parishes that you know of?
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Cannot find death certificate
Thanks for your replies. I will show you the first paragraph of the piece.
Funeral of Well-Known 'Muchty Lady
The funeral took place to Auchtermuchty cemetery of a well known Auchtermuchty lady, Miss Christina Muir,Mournipea.
She was 82 years of age and was the second daughter of the late John Muir, baker, Burnside, and sister of the late Provost Muir.
Maybe she was not resident here when she died. Would she be in the poorhouse if she had dementia or could not look after herself?
Thanks Scott.

Re: Cannot find death certificate
Hi Scott,
The death certificate confirms that the lady who died in the poorhouse was the daughter of John Muir (baker). The causes of death include senility. Her mother's name on the death certificate matches that in the 1911 census, when her widowed mother was living in Christina's house. The death certificate parent names (including the mother's maiden name) match those on Christina's 1858 birth certificate (Falkland, Fife).
All the best,
AndrewP
