I'm trying to find a birth/baptism record for my great great grandmother Elizabeth Sommerville/Somerville.
From her marriage record she was born about 1847 in Cranston, Midlothian, Scotland, the daughter of James Sommerville/Somerville and Janet Gordon.
Her parents were married Feb 12, 1843 at Newbattle, Midlothian, Scotland.
Here is the family in 1851.

Re: Elizabeth Somerville/Sommerville
On Elizabeth's marriage record, which church did she belong to? It should say what form of marriage service was used for the wedding.
While it may not be the same church her parents belonged to when Elizabeth would have been born/baptized, it's a starting point.
If it's not the established church of Scotland, the records likely aren't at Scotlandspeople, and the challenge is to find out which congregation they attended and where the records might be.

Re: Elizabeth Somerville/Sommerville
Given this, it's possible that any extant baptism records aren't in the OPRs ~ that the family was part of a church other than the established Church of Scotland when Elizabeth was born in the 1840s.Aodh wrote:Elizabeth was married in the United Presbyterian Church in Bothwell, Lanarkshire on June 28, 1872.
Some information about that church (I think it's the right one.....) is at this link. If so, the records have been digitized and are available at the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh ~ in the second page of results when searching the catalog at the National Archives, found by entering CH3/1037 into the catalog search.
You'll need to figure out which church/congregation the family might have attended around when Elizabeth was born and go through the same process for finding where the records are (if they are extant). The gazetteer here can sometimes help narrow down the choices, as can the resources at the FamilySearch link above.
Hope this helps!
