Need help locating birth certificate

Post by rorydotcom » Tue Dec 24, 2013 8:58 pm

Hello,

My grandmother was born out of wedlock in Scotland in 1911 to an Irish mother. I can not find her birth certificate on scotlandspeople.gov.uk. I know her birthdate and her mother's name as well as an address where she may have been staying. I found her brother's birth certificate on scotlandspeople, he was also born out of wedlock in Scotland in 1909. Any tips or direction on how I could obtain this would be most helpful.

All the best,

Rory

Hi Rory
And a warm welcome to Talking Scot :D

If you could give us your grandmother's name (and her mother's surname if it is not the same as the child's name at the time of birth too - if illegitimate, she is likely to be indexed under the mother's surname) and place of birth (district and county will be enough), we may be able to help you find her. It is difficult to give tips when we do not know the name or the area.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Rory,

Was she born before census night in 1911 - midnight of 02 to 03-April-1911? If yes, have you found her in the census records?

All the best,
