What do you already know about him and what are you trying to find out? Do you have him in all possible censuses and in birth, marriage and death records? Or are you trying to go backwards and look at his parents and siblings? Not sure what direction you want to go with this, so it is difficult to advise.

sarah I know nothing about him. he was my gggm son who she had before she married my gggf georg walker. I know he had a daughter janet but no date on her either. not even sure who he married. I found that on him in fs and I aldo went into linidix couldn't find him but I think I found janet under Jessie janet Duncan

I like to start out with the censuses, to get a general idea of where people are and what they are doing.

In 1881 he and his mother were living with his grandparents in Forres:

63 & 65 High Street, Forres, Moray

Mary Robb, 24, Daughter, born Fordyce, Banffshire, General Servant Domestic
John Duncan, 7, Grandson, born Forres, Scholar

In 1891 he is still living with his grandfather at the same address, but it looks as though his grandmother has died and his grandfather has remarried:

63 High St, Forres, Moray
James Robb, 75, Head, born Fordyce, Banffshire, Grocer
Jane Ann Robb, 53, Wife, born Forres, Moray, Grocer Wife
John Duncan, 17, Grandson, born Forres, Moray, Bakers Apprentice

The plot thickens and by 1901 he is in Glasgow with a younger SISTER, also surnamed Duncan:

John Duncan, 27, Head, born Forres, Moray, Bakery (manager)
Ellen W Duncan, 18, Sister, born Forres, Moray, Dressmaker

When did Mary Robb mary George Walker?

Going back, I see that in 1891 Ellen is down as Hellen Walker and is the eldest of 6 children of George and Mary. Was she really George's daughter or was she also the daughter of Alexander Duncan? You'd need to have a look at her birth record to find that out.

they had 9 children Helen ws born in 1882 and I have no marriage date my grandfather William robb walker was born in 1894 in clovenside forres Scotland I have a marriage date on his 2nd marriage to mary ann wood. jan 6 1911 but no marriage date for mary robb.

Just playing with the search function on scotlandspeople.gov.uk I can see:

-There is a marriage for George Walker and Mary Robb in 1881 in Forres
-There are two Helen Walker births in Forres between 1881 and 1884, both in 1882.

You will need to get some credits to download the certificates.

It looks like Helen is most likely George's daughter, but perhaps the enumerator in Glasgow automatically put her down as Duncan, since she was listed as John's sister in 1901.

As for John, there is a John Duncan, age 37 in the Milton Reg district (where he was living in 1901) in 1911, but I don't know if it is the correct one, without downloading the image. There is no way to search that census by place of birth and John Duncan is a common name.

Same goes for his marriage, there are too many possibilities, even if we were sure he stayed in the same district of Glasgow. You would need to download the index results and make a guess and hope you hit on the right one to download the certificate. I would try the census first, since if it turned out to be the right man in 1911 and his wife was enumerated with him, then you can be fairly sure of which marriage to choose.
