Hi Can anyone help me?. The above person married a Janet Legget McNair and she died in California in 1918? I think. She was born in Blantyre. Did her husband go with her to America>?
Where and when did he die?. The above people were my gran dads parents. Any help would be welcome.

A search on ScotlandsPeople for Robert Howie born 1862 ± 2 years, died 1880 or later gives 15 results. One is in Hamilton in 1941 (did he remain in Scotland; did he emigrate and return to Scotland; or is this the wrong fellow?).

Do you know the names of his parents?
Have you found him in any censuses?

If you know the names of his parents it may be worth a punt for you to have a look at the 1941 death certificate and see if that is him.

Have you seen her in the censuses to get an idea which decade she emigrated?
Does he disappear from the Scottish censuses at the same time?

If their year of marriage is later than the 1880 that I picked upon for a starting point, you could maybe eliminate a few of those from the 15 search results who died earliest.

There are some ideas for you to work on.

Are you sure Janet died in California?

There is a death registered at Hamilton in 1927 of a Janet McNair/Howie of the right age at SP.

I am not sure where the information re death in California came from but I shall look at the death in Hamilton to see if that is the right person
and who the parents were. Thank u for that information.
