Casey b Glasgow.....

Post by Tracey » Fri Sep 23, 2005 11:11 am

Helloooooo

I am trying to find the births of two children in Glasgow
1. John Casey b c1857
2. William b c1859..........parents John Casey Ann Phillips.

I have searched S/P, IGI and found nothing matching so far.
I was hoping to find their parents marriage date and place in Ireland on them but i think these dates according to other births i have at that time are a bit to early.

Any help appreciated

Thank you
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Hi Cathy

I dont know !! but i dont think it is, I found 2 English census they are the closest by far as i couldnt find anything relating to them on S/P bar one 1881 census.
On the English 1871
John 36- head - boot and shoe maker - b Ireland
Ann wife - 48 Ireland
John Son 14 Glasgow
William son 12 scholar Glasgow
Francis son is entered twice ? once as age 6 born Huddersfield and again aged 5 Suffolk ?
Robert son 2 Suffolk
Henry 7 months Preston

So you see if this was them they were all over the place and i cant find any of the English birth either and as S/P gives more away instantly rather than the English system of having to send of for certificates i thought it easier to try and track down the Scottish births to see if this is them.
With parents names on census as John and Ann Casey that isnt helping much either why couldnt they have been Zelda and Zebadee !!

The family on the 1881 census given above appear to be this group - the children of John Casey (Cassie?) and Ann Hendry (married 31 JUL 1846 Gorbals, Lanark).
  • ADAM CASEY - Birth: 03 APR 1856 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark
JOHN CASEY - Birth: 26 SEP 1858 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark
ROBERT CASEY - Birth: 03 MAR 1861 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark
WILLIAM CASEY - Birth: 14 AUG 1865 Clyde, Glasgow, Lanark
All the best,

Andrew Paterson

The 1881 census i found in Scotland that also could be them they are at 11 Braehead Street Govern Lanark GRO ref vol 644 - 1 ???( i scanned it badly) -97 page 2
But i am still none the wiser until i find a birth certificate. My gt grandfather was Francis Casey all i know of him is what his marriage and death tell me. He married in 1897 at Moncur St EU Church Glasgow and it puts his age at 30. His address was 9 New Street Glasgow. His death in 1906 puts his age at 35 and address as 10 Bunfield ? Street Glasgow. It could be the same as Cathys Bellfield St - i assume that census was 1881 ?
I cant look for his parents marriage in Irelandas i dont know where they come from. So i thought i would try and track one of the prevously mentioned births down on S/P - no luck so far.

forgot to say thanks for helping

Hi Tracey,

That entry in the 1881 census is transcribed on the LDS CD as:
  • Dwelling: 11 Braehead Street
    Census Place: Govan, Lanark, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203672 GRO Ref Volume 644-11 EnumDist 97 Page 2
    Marr Age Sex Birthplace
    John CASEY M 36 M Ireland
    Rel: Head
    Occ: Coal Dealer
    Annie CASEY M 30 F Ireland
    Rel: Wife
Catherine CASEY 10 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
    Rel: Daur
    Occ: Scholar
Francis CASEY 9 M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
    Rel: Son
    Occ: Scholar
Annie CASEY 6 F Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
    Rel: Daur
John CASEY 2 M Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
    Rel: Son
According to this transcription, Annie was listed (hopefully in error) as male. I see no obvious sign of the children's births on the onlie IGI.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson
