Death Records.....

Post by Jean Jeanie » Fri Sep 23, 2005 8:20 pm

On a recent trip to Cromdale in Moray/Inverness I found a plot in Cromdale Cemetery and 3 of my McDonald's were on the gravestone. It is a very large plot so I contacted Inverness Council and they have sent me a photostat of the entries in the lairs. Three of the others are my McDonalds, so I guess it is pretty safe to say that the others will be related too.

I have found one (albeit I cannot tie him up with the rest)

There are 3 others and I would appreciate a bit of help in narrowing down my options to finding their death entries.

Perhaps it is better to take them one at a time. Unfortunately the names are very common.

The first one is Mary MacDonald date of internment 30 Sep 1919.

I have tried m*cdonald Mar* in Moray 1919 and there were 3 of them. Looked at one likely one and it's not mine. The other 2 look unlikely because the other names listed for them are Smith and Allan and these names do not occur in the family.

Tried the same search in Inverness and there are 20 Mary Mc/Macdonalds!!

I have 2 Mary McDonalds in my tree. One had the maiden name of McDonald as well as her married name. The other one was not married in 1881 at the age of 32 and had 2 illegitimate children, so I would think she probably did not get married.

Any suggestions on how to narrow things down?

Jean

Hi Jean,

Was there an age on the headstone for Mary M(a)cDonald? If so, then it is worth a look at the IGI for appropriate births (give or take a year or three either side) to see if amy of them match up with parents' names that you are hoping for.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew

No age given in the lair record, only the date of internment and her name
