Hi. I have a Catherine Wood born c1838 died 1911 (age 73). I just can't be sure of who her mother was. On her death record Her father is listed as William wood (coalminer)and mother as Janet Wood (no maiden name). Since I can't be sure of her mother then I can't be sure if she belongs on my tree; she married a John Arnott in 1854 and the OPR doesn't show her parents. What bothers me more is that I have a William Wood (coalminer) who married a Janet Crookstone and had 4 children between 1809 & 1816, making Catherine's c1838 birth as a stretch.
Any ideas?

Where do you think she was born? They seem to have been married in Auchterdennan in Fife. Is that where she is from? Was she perhaps born in Tranent or Haddington?

I tend to stick to distant rellies, e.g. children of siblings and their descendents. That can provide endless hours of entertainment.
BTW I think that Catherine was probably born around 1828 and just kept shaving years off her age.
