Death of John Campbell Master Mariner

Post by clancam » Sun Jun 07, 2015 5:50 am

Have been searching for over eight (8) years for place and date of death of my GGF, John CAMPBELL born Longleys, Perth, Scotland 1826.
Last heard of in 1871 UK Census at Liverpool with his family, Mary Ann (Wife), Son John Duncan (my GF) and daughter Elizabeth Baxter Campbell.
John was Master of ships, "Bon Accord" and "The Duke" the latter shipwrecked at Jamaica 1867.
Hoping sks in Scotland has information of John or his family.
His parents: Duncan Campbell born Fife. and Elizabeth BAXTER born 1800 Perthshire.
John's siblings.
Catherine married William ROBERTSON. Daughter Elizabeth born 1855 Edinburgh.
Mary married Charles TYRIE
Jane
Helen witness to John and Mary Ann wedding in Edge Hill, Liverpool March 1864.
Hope sks can help me.
Kind regards

Hi Clancam, sorry I'm not in Scotland, but I had a similar situation with my gt gt uncle James Campbell who disappeared after the 1871 census from Newcastle on Tyne. I eventually found that he'd died in Aceh in 1873, from the Registers of Wages and Effects of Deceased Seamen (BT 153) which I accessed through FMP. He was an engineer, and died of cholera.
Have you had a look in these registers? There are quite a few different ones, if you think John Campbell died at sea.

Hi clancam
Well even if you have had only one response to your original post at least it has been brought up to the top and will be picked up by Google/Bing and the other bots. Some of our newer members may come up with new information too. (Now where's the "keep you fingers crossed" Smiley ?
