I came across , bit late !!,a discussion about Charles Irving and his brother Alexander Irving, b.abt 1819. he was my g.grandfather. whose Father was Thomas Irving, b. abt 1776-1856...married Janet Bell,1777-1873. This bit I know...but thought his Father was a George Irving who married a Molly Chancellor...but, after an amazing journey with them..I have found it to be wrong !! ( but was fun/interesting !!) So far I cannot find Thomas' birth or death records anywhere ...bit of a brick wall. They were farming ? in the Old Cumnock area. AndrewP has been a great help ...thanks... but suggested I put this onto the Forum..... so here goes ....any help would be greatly appreciated to help me unscramble !! my family.. Jintie

No sign of Father Thomas in 1851 [son is married with a wee Thomas of his own] but the Janet above is at

So it looks as if Thomas snr has died between the 2 censuses and before statutory registration in 1855, making a death hard to pin down.
1851 gives more detailed birth places, Janet and some of the boys are noted as born in Sanquhar Dumfriesshire so I'd start looking for Thomas's birth in that area too.

Thanks for the prompt reply ...I have most of that information, but will now concentrate on Sanquhar...you never know my luck !!..Pity we can't just ask them around for a cup of tea and a chat..but what else can we expect ...it was a long time ago !!...Thanks again..if I find anything I'll let you know ..Jintie
