Hello all,
I have a child born on 23rd June, 1912 who I believe died quite soon afterwards, but I can find no record of her death. Was it necessary to register the death of an infant less than a year old ? Her mother died on the 14th July, 1912, COD given as placenta praevia, surely this was a long time to be bleeding after having given birth ? Any advice welcome
Thank you.

Re: registering a babys death ?
Hello Susie Q,
Yes a death has to be registered no matter what age the person was when they died.
A stillbirth is registered in a separate book and is closed to the public.
Regards,
Annette

Re: registering a babys death ?
What makes you think the little one didn't survive?
Is it that you can't find them under the birth name?
If. Mother died quite often the child/ren would be absorbed into the wider family circle, and take on perhaps different surnames. Especially in this case where a tiny baby would need nursing.
I would have a look around the parents siblings' for likely surnames and check those.
Pity it's just after a census year, 3 years to wait until the 1921 is published.

Re: registering a babys death ?
I think Wilma's suggestion is likely, as Mum died so soon after the birth. There were six other children in the family, and Dad didn't re-marry until 1916, so it's likely that a family member took the infant in.
Thank you.
Thank you.
