jane Yuill.....

Post by maggie » Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:39 pm

Hello
can anyone please give me their words of wisdom on how to find Jane Yuill born 1817 i have been searching on SP using the following info that i found on a web site for which i am trying to check out it's reliability/see it for myself the info is as follows

Jane Yuill died 12th sept 1867 Maryhill road Maryhill Lanark and was married to Alexander Charmichael.
i have tried all the possible combinations i can think of even trying out John's theory that less is more that helped me so much yesterday with no luck  kind regards maggie

Hello Maggie,

rule 1: less can be more;
rule 2: when something fails, try a different technique.

Charmichael does not seem likely, so search on C*armic*, J*, 1867-1867.
You will find her.

Regards,

John

1851 & 1861 censuses

Post by Jack » Fri Oct 21, 2005 1:30 pm

Hi Maggie,
I'd got these yesterday, but couldn't remember why - had to do a TS search to find out  Ain't auld age wonderful?!!
It would appear that wee Agnes has possibly died quite young? Can't see her in the Glasgow area 1861.
Some birthplace inconsistancies.

Hello Jack
many thanks for the info i have had a look at the 1871 and found Alexander with a new wife strange thing being there is a son age 19 called William a blacksmith born Ayrshire Dunlop?prehaps that should read step son as Margaret his 2nd wife was a widow .
the 2nd marriage was in 1869 to a Margaret Marshall or Gray and the wittness where Charles Yuill and Margaret Yuill
(Charles was Janes brother and He had a wife Margaret Carmichael which could be a sister to Alexander)
the index gives a choice of three variations
Carmichael Alexander Gray Margaret maryhill
Carmichael Alexander Marshall Margaret maryhill
Carmichael Alexander Marsyall Margaret maryhill
but all show as the one cert when viewed.
as her parents are Marshall i am assuming that her married name was Gray
can i ask you Jack to see if in the 1861 you can find a Margaret Gray with a son called William.?
yes it does look likely that Agnes died before 1855 or could it be that she along with William where with grandparents elsewhere if he is Alexanders son .i will try to find a death for William to see if that sheds any light
thanks once again Jack kind regards maggie

Hello Jack
thanks for the info i have had a look at the 1881 and no sign of Alexander (i think he must be pushing up the daisies!!)and no sign either of William born Ayrshire that ties in with the blacksmith occupation that's with using the Yuill& Gray surname.
anyhow i think that is the end of the road with no decendants to try to find with the Yuill link unless some turn up Jane's death cert sited only the word cancer as cause of death so prehaps there was only one child in that 10 year period from marriage to death i can't see any or sp.
thanks once again Jack your help is appreciated
kind regards maggie

Hello Jack
many thanks for the information
my Yuills are coming together at last i have been working on Charles & his family (Charles aged 10 in the 1841 census )over the weekend and have had quite a bit of success for some strange reason this family used the spelling of Zuill the whole way through the records even until 1933 when one of his daughters died in Glasgow an Agnes Paterson Zuill a school teacher .
going by the 1881 census there was 4 children
an agnes p age 16 (death above)
a Janet F age 27 (can't find as yet the F stands for Faulds i think )
a John C age 17 (can't find as yet)
a William age 25 found
but i
also found a Jean C & a Margaret C both school teachers in Baldernock area or at least thats where they where in 1901.Death certs found
i haven't got the family on the 1871 it's spelt Luill at maryhill on the list i have paid for it but haven't been able to access it on active viewerx and on java there was no image available for what ever reason .i just wish whatever problem sp is having with this lot could be sorted out but at least they did acknowledge there is a problem that their engineers are working on that was on friday
anyhow Jack do you think you could have a wee look for Charles & family in the 1861 for me please when you have time .the wife is called Margaret ms carmichael so i think she was probably a sister to Alexander Carmichael married to Jane another case of keeping it in the family.thanks once again Jack kind regards maggie edited.......
found Janet faulds Zuill on sp but can't view it  have paid my money
John C no sign of.
