Mcleod Family.....

Post by Alcluith » Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:24 pm

In the 1901 census for Dumbarton, Parish: Bonhill, Ward: Jamestone I have Neil Mcleod with his wife Agnes and his sons Chester 9, William 7 and John 5. Cannot find any record of his marriage, death, or the childrens birth certificates although they say they were born locally in Renton - what am I doing wrong??

I know for his mother death certificate in 1909 that he was still in the area as he was the informant.

Good afternoon, Drew

I tried M*CLEOD Male 1885-1900 Dunbarton, Bonhill and got 4 matches. Unfortuanatley, had no credits left so can't give you any more exact info.

Might be worth a look.

All the best

Hello Drew,

I could not find births for any of them, a marriage for the parents, or any subsequent events for Chester M*cLeod, which is surely a unique name. I suspect that the births were registered under Agnes' maiden name. Do you know anything more about the family?

Regards,

John

Hello Drew,

There's a Chester Mcla* born 1892 Lanarkshire. What's the mothers maiden name on death cert? Perhaps no marriage or a remarriage. I thought that of the three boy children in the census none were named Hugh, was a bit odd.

Not enough credits left to access above info, sorry.

Edit-- There's also a marriage of an Agnes M*cla* to a Neil M*cleod in 1899 Lanarkshire. Worth a look?

The 1892 birth is James Chester McLAREN, and the 1899 marriage involves Agnes McLaren.

IanS, David, Sporran

As always this forum comes up trumps.
I am away from home at present but will feedback to the board on my findings.

I could not get any information on this family at all and one piece of information. that I had missed to post was that Agnes was born in Ayrshire but again I found nothing there.
Two of Neil's brothers were married in Leith but again no luck there.

Again thanks to all for your assistance and guidance.

Mcleod Update

Post by Alcluith » Sun Nov 13, 2005 10:48 pm

I Found Neil McLeod and his wife Agnes m.s. Knox.
As you said Agnes had remarried after the death of her husband John Mclaren. The three children were John's and I assume that Neil adopted them when the took his name. I also found the death of Neil but still searching for his wife.

Again thanks to all who responded with their assistance.

Hi Drew
Did you realise that you could look for a female death on SP using her ms and married names?

There is a death of an Agnes M*CLEOD, other names M*CLAREN and KNOX on ScotlandsPeople. Might be worth having a look. I had no credits left so can't even tell you what year it was.

Hope this helps
