Kerr/Matheson marriage 1903.....

Post by annpa » Sun Nov 13, 2005 3:48 pm

Hello all
I have a marriage cert for Alexander Kerr and Barbara Stuart Matheson, 1903, some parts of which are difficult to decipher.
I've read the bits about the Gallery, but still do not know how to post to the Gallery. Could someone help me with this please and then perhaps I could post the cert and someone could distinguish the various bits I can't!
Cheers

Hello Annpa,

I'm not too good at explaining things but.......
You must be logged on and the file must be on your computer.
Click on Gallery above, click upload file, click on browse and find the file on your computer and select it (preferably as a tiff file).
This should send it to the gallery where you should follow instructions.
Hope this works. I'm sure Jean will be along in a while if it doesn't.

Regards,
Annette M

Not the easiest of marriage register entries to read :!:

Which means, given the quality of the image, that you are perfectly entitled to submit a contact form to SP, which should result in GROS sending you a better, hopefully much better, quality photocopy, or even a transcript..........

Meanwhile.....

I'd read the parents as

Hugh Crawford KERR, occupation ????????, and Agnes KERR MS GOLDIE (deceased)

and

Alexander MATHESON, Farmer, and Barbara MATHESON MS STUART

Witnesses:

James KERR and ???????? MATHESON.............

I can't, for the life of me, work out what is Alexander's occupation ........ probably "Farmer's something", but what's the "something" ??.........

Hello Annpa

Nelmit gave very good instructions (thank you Annette!) so if you are still having difficulty please let me know. I see that David has peeked at the image and given you a response so maybe this one will be resolved for you.....especially if you're able to get a clearer photocopy mailed to you. That has worked wonders for me before!

However.....it's my greatest wish that our gallery could be "user friendly" for all!!! If folks are having diffculty with the gallery then I do want to hear about it.....!!!!

Best regards
Jean

Hi folks,
I've uploaded the image of this marriage which is difficult to read. It will eventually come on the gallery as

KerrMathesonM1903

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-406

Thanks for all your attempts so far.

Hi annpa

I get "Joiner" for occupation of Hugh Crawford Kerr and then the occupation of Alexander Matheson is "Farmer" . The word "deceased" follows "Farmer" but is not in parentheses as is typical. Witnesses are James Kerr and Jeanie? no wait...it's Annie Matheson.

Those are my guesses  !

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Annpa
I think that Alexander's occupation is the same as my first job..
A "tailors cutter" :-k
The tailor would mark the cloth with chalk and his cutter would cut out the panels with scissors.

McIntyre, Menzies, Cowley, Pearson, Copland, McCammond, Forbes, Edgar etc. in Scotland
Skinner in Northumberland

Thanks all for your interpretations of this certificate.
I think I will still write to SP again, having sent a contact form on 9th January, but having had no reply or anything. Perhaps they might send me a decent copy. But thanks again for your hard work!!
