Hi,
I have a William Crawford Anderson born c1856 South Leith, Edinburgh. His parents were Charles Anderson & Ellen Crawford.
I can find no record in IGI or SP for his birth. I can find both his marriages and death (1941).

Not any help here on your William Crawford ANDERSON, and i dare say you've seen these conflicting LDS submissions.
But NOT the parents you need, and this William has apparently died much earlier than yours - ie 1929, not 1941.

Hi Jack,
I can't find him on the 1861 census. What I do have is his mom's dc at age 73 in 1895 and she was a widow at that time and had married 2x.
There's an OPR on SP for the marriage in 1840 for Helen Crawford & Charles Anderson; I've yet to find one for her marriage to John Bruce, which must have happened between 1882-1895 as both of William's parents Charles & Helen were not deceased when he & Margaret Robertson married in 1882.

That's why i was hoping you had William Crawford ANDERSON in 1861 - with everyone's birthplaces!
The 1861 would most likely give a truer age for William as he was a child, rather than on later censuses when ages can sometimes be a bit out.
Where are William & his mother in 1881? Was it in that year you got South Leith as his birthplace?
Could you give as much as you know of William & mother Ellen CRAWFORD as you have it just now, eg their MCs (witnesses?) DCs (informants?) where/when events happened etc.
Do you have anything on Charles ANDERSON?
Are you descended from William (b~1856)? Have a proven unbroken link from the present day back to him?

I've uploaded the census images for 1891 and 1901 for William & Margaret Anderson. The 1891 census lists 3 children who had probably moved on by the 1901 census as they were 8,7 and 6 years of age at the time.
The 1901 census is 2 images a,b as they were spread over 2 pages to cover the parents ( bottom of 1901a ) and 9 children (top of 1901b )
William is listed as having been born in England.

Hi Dennis,
When I was NRH just before xmas I checked out the marriage of Archibald Lowrie and Sarah Anderson that Andy highlighted. She was indeed the daughter of Charles Anderson and Ellen Crawford. She married on 3rd June 1872 at Leith, aged 22, and parents are given as Charles Anderson, Seaman Merchant Service (dec'd) and Ellen Anderson m/s Crawford. Archibald Lowrie was a Seaman, Royal Navy. Archibald was the informant on Helen Crawford's 1895 death cert. and is described as her son in law
