Caraid

Deciphering is not my speciality.

What I read is: John BARA-----, son-in law

You'll have to wait till the specialists arrive!

Hi Caraid
I don't know what it is but I reckon it starts with an "R" - looks like Rarame which makes little sense...I'll keep lookin'! :?

Best wishes

Hi Caraid,

I have to go for John Pearson. On magnifying the name to 500%, the "B" or "R" seen at the start of the surname is "Pe". The "n" at the end is similar to the "n" he has used in "Son in Law". (credit to Drew for spotting Pearson)

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

I tend to agree with Andrew, it looks like Pearson to me.

Hi all,

First thanks to Tracey for her email.

I knew it wouldn't be a problem as the team always come up trumps when it comes to deciphering, they always do.

I would go with Andrew's - John Pearson as the likely candidate.
Burns, Quinn - Glasgow, N.Ireland
McLeod, Mackay, Nicholson, McNeil - Skye
James, McLeod, Sinclair, Smith - Renton
Davidson, Adie, Gibb - Aberdeen
Jolly, Wishart - Angus
Usher - Newcastle
Mullen, Roe - Dublin
O'Donnell - Ireland, Alexandria

Hi Caraid,

There is a marriage recorded between an Agnes Wright and a John Pearson in Innerwick in 1863. According to the igi, George and Jane had a daughter called Agnes.
