original death certificates.....
In 1947 my grandmother died in Glasgow. What I am wondering is if at that time would they have put her childrens names on the original death certificate. I have heard that they used to. But I'm not sure if they still do or ever did.

Hello Anner
None of the death certificates i have from SP or any originals note children unless they were the informant.
The "latest" one i have is 1953 and still that only notes parents names and informant. Still two names more than English ones though
Tracey
Edit: Quite possibly in that magical year 1855
You can look on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/conte ... 628#Deaths for what was included on Death Certificates

O.K. Thank you Tracey, It was just a thought. I am trying to find out if there are any living relatives on my fathers side. He was adopted by his aunt soon after his birth in 1922. The informant on one cert. would have been my dads brother. He was told that his parents had died in 1922 and there where no siblings. You can imagine my shock when I found those certs. I just thought it was very sad for my father as he died in 1974 not knowing any of this.

What families do to each other is so unfair is our immediate reaction then sometimes on reflection can understand why.
Talking in the same time scale now as i have a similar situation - are you sure the informant was his brother ? My grandfather has described himself on a death cerificate as being "brother" to the deceased when we know he wasnt although we have yet to work out the exact relationship.
Have you found his parents marriage or deaths to see who the informants are on those that is if they did die before 1955.
I only found out last year that its possible my sir name shouldnt be what it is ! although im pleased my grandfather stuck to the one he did as the other one is even duller !
Have you searched genesreunited for any possible connections
Silly questions i know.

It is definatly a sibling of my fathers as I have the death certificates from 1947 backwards to 18something. I have to say that without the events that happened I probably wouldnt be here today, and that they could probably justify their actions, and that it was a long time ago. I wouldnt even want to get in touch with any of their living relatives it is just a curiosity.
I cant go forward any way but will have to start on the yorkshire side of my family.
I think i am addicted to look ups at scotlands people.

I know what you mean Tracey. Yes it was the death of my fathers mother, and signed by her son living at the same address as her. My father was adopted ( not sure if any adoption certs as too early to apply for one) by his mothers sister (his aunt) and we always called her nan. Really confusing even for me as I get muddled as a lot of the names are repetative exept for the one on the death cert.

Like you Anner with somethings i am happy with what i know and have no wish to take things further and you have to consider who our taking things further will upset. ourselves included. The sisters of the one i mentioned are still alive but very old. All their childeren want to know is who were their true grandparents but they wont tell. Somethings i believe we are not meant to know.
Good luck with the English side, i have half given up after being spoilt by SP
A word of advice - dont at any point decide to add up how much you have spent on it as i just did

Re: original death certificates
It was only in 1855 that a Scottish death register entry contained info on the children of the deceased, - always assuming that the informant had the information !anner wrote:In 1947 my grandmother died in Glasgow. Bacause of the load on the registrars the amount of info on BMD register entries in 1856 and later was greatly reduced.
