Help with birth record.....

Post by LindaMc » Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:01 am

Could anyone help me please in the search for my Grandmother's birth record? I've spent hours on SP looking for this family but they are proving to be very elusive.
This is the information I have so far.

Annie McTaggart married James Barnes 10 November 1919 (age 32)
address: 128 Reid Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow.
She died 28 June 1981.
Father - Peter McTaggart(age 22) married Mary Hamill 4 October 1880, 45 Wolsley Street, Glasgow. (Can't find his birth either)
She had a brother Ralph, born 24 July 1889 ,Struthers Street, Glasgow but I cannot find her birth or any census records for the family.
On her marriage certificate it lists her as being 32 which would mean she was born about 1887, her death certificate gives her birth date as 19 April 1889 but I've had no success in finding her.
I would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Thank you
Linda

Looks like Hannah Hammil should be Mother in Law (census transcription on LDS CD says mother).

All the best,

Hello Linda,

There are only 3 Ann McTaggart's born in Lanarkshire between 1886 and 1889. Have you looked at them all?

One possible Peter McTaggart on IGI

His age at marriage birth year would have been 1858 - Census birh year 1856.

Peter Sinclair McTaggart born 8th May 1858 Central District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Parents Thomas McTaggart and Jane Sinclair
Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

Tracey,Andrew and Annette

Thanks for your replies, Yes Tracey this certainly looks like the right family. Peter's wife was Mary Hamill and her mother's name was Hannah, so she IS the mother-in-law as Andrew said.
Thanks for that.
Annette I've looked on SP but they only list an Annie Morrisson Mctaggart, born Bridgeton which is not her. Am I doing something wrong when searching?
Thanks for your help. I'll have another look later.

Hello Linda,

I searched for Ann* McTaggart, 1886 - 1889 in Lanarkshire and got 3 hits.

Actually there are only 4 in all of Scotland in that time.

Good luck,
Annette M

Hello Annette

Thank you so much for your help. I've found her at last! I thought I'd looked at all the births before but maybe I only looked for Annie.

Hello Tracey
Peter Sinclair McTaggart is the only one listed on SP from 1855-1890 but he is not the right one as my Peter's parents were James McTaggart and Agnes Hall. I'm off to look for Annie's brother John's birth. Thanks

Hi Linda,
Any chance Peter started life as Ralph? Or do you have both with parents in 1871?
I can see a 4yr Ralph in 1861 - but not with parents; he's possibly with a Catherine HALL (71), b Campsie.

Help with birth record

Post by LindaMc » Mon Feb 13, 2006 11:52 pm

Hi Jack

I have found this Census record with Ralph aged 4 with his grandmother Catherine Hall. His mother was Agnes Hall but she died in 1859 - oh, I wonder if his grandmother brought him up. I found his father, James McTaggart on 1871 census in Govan Poorhouse where he died in 1873. I'll look for Ralph on 1871 and see if Peter's with him. Thanks for your help.
