Arthur Albert Vessey.....

Post by Smith » Sun Feb 19, 2006 5:35 am

After at least 10 years of searching I have found my grandfathers brother.ARTHUR ALBERT VESSEY. Died on 10th September 1954 at BallcoCH DUNBARTONSHIRE Joyce Green Hospital Born in Bexley Kent 1900 No wonder I couldnt find him as the rest of the family were still living in Kent till they died. never thought to look in Scotland,

I sited the family on the England 1901 census He had a wife Ethel & a son Vivian Stannard

What I would like to find out is.. Was there a newspaper that shows his death Notice Could someone give me the Name of the Newspaper . I would hope that at this may give me an idea if he was still married, more Children /grandchldren.
Perhaps some one could tell me where the Wills are kept.

I know that this is a big ask
My grandfather immigrated to N.Z 1910 and never spoke of the family he had left behind.in U>K>Strange ? My father said they were never allowed to ask

Hello Dianne and Welcome!

Wow...I thought this would be a snap but I'm afraid I'm stumped  Can I ask you were you obtained the death details for your Grandfather's brother? I mean...because the date of death is in 1954 those records are available online through Scotlands People. And a peek at the death certificate would tell you who the informant was (maybe a wife maybe a son or daughter ) and also if the deceased person was married and who to and also their parents names. All this is available if the informant was aware of the correct information and is far more information than perhaps you are used to from working in Englands records. The problem here is that there is no death of a Arthur Albert Vessey in any configuration within a range of years stating any of the details you know!! Soooo.....I'm confused! :( Maybe he really did die in Scotland as you say but where is the registration of it??? :?

If you do have positive proof of a date of death then I would imagine you could contact the GROS and request a copy of the DC.....and see if they can find it!!

Sorry not to have a better answer!

Best wishes
Jean

Hello Jean.,
I have just wasted your time Sorry - I knew of this site I jumped right in.

Ill start again
Arthur Albert Vessey born 1878 Dartford Kent

Sent for his Death Certificate ( Ancestry Beta Look ups)

It did say he died Dartford Kent Joyce Green Hospital 1954
The informant was his son VIVIAN STANNARD VESSEY living at 45 Shandon Brae Balloch Dunbartonshire

I know Vivian was born 1900 Dartford Kent.

If you can put up with me after my last posting Blooper I would really love you to take more time and see if you can find VIVIAN STANNARD marriage or death or for that matter any VESSEY in Scotland

Thank you for the time you last spent on me

Hi Dianne,

There are 5 Vessey deaths (none called Vivian) in Scotland from 1855 to 1955 (the latest available online). The one that stands out fom the crowd is a 77 year old female who died in 1955 in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire. I have no credits available to look at the details of this death. Fo you to see it, go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and for the NZ equivalent of 6 GBP you can view this certificate and more.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Many Thanks

Hello Dianne

My grandfather died in this hospital too. If you do a Google - Dartford Newspapers a few appear. If you are looking for an Obituary from 1954 you may have to contact a local library for that now rather than a newspaper.

Hi Dianne

I had some spare credits on SP (saving them up for the '51 census when it goes live) - looked up the death cert for you:-

Ethel Vessey (MS Randall) - widow of Arthur Albert Vessey. Died 8 Feb 1955 at an address in Balloch - home address given as Dartford, Kent. Death registered by daughter-in-law Flora M Vessey.

If you contact me by PM I'll get the lot to you.

Best regards

Ted

Hi Ted.

My Grandfather Cecil Vessey came to New Zealand 1910 and left his brothers sister & parents behind in Kent He married in New Zealand & never had any more contact with them never Spoke of them. My father said they were never allowed to ask questions hence my father never knew of uncles cousin or grandparents. When dad died I got interested in genealogy I have never looked back I find it a very interesting hobby
But I could never find Arthur or his wife Ethell Randall, I wasnt looking in Scotland. I thought they may have immigrated somewhere.

Ted you have made my day, or night 12.30 am morning over here & still on the computor.
I cant thank you enough for your lookup and the using of your Credits. Very kind of you.

I would appreciate any more details.

and to repeat myself Thank you very much again
