Both DC name their parents as William Stanfield and Agnes Hughes. I knew their mother’s MS was Hughes but it never occurred to me to check for James’ marriage under her name. It’s a wee bit of a dog’s dinner but no doubt I’ll get there in the end.
Thanks,

Looks like a case of a badly filled out marriage schedule and/or a bad transcription into the marriage registerv from the schedule. I'd take some persuading that the marriage register entry showing him with the surname HUGHES is not him.

Hi Annette,
Yes, I'd be interested in Thomas's details.

Hi Annette,
Very many thanks. I never realised how informative poorhouse records could be. It's ironic that Thomas and his father James ended their days in the same poorhouse. As I've never been able to ascertain exactly where in Ireland James came from it would have been a bonus to have found his record. Poorhouse records certainly open up another avenue for my research.
Thanks,
Jim
