James Sneddon Mary Blair/Grant .....

Post by Jean Jeanie » Sun Mar 12, 2006 12:07 am

I have uploaded their m.c. to the gallery. I know what I think is her mother's name.............it's not Blair!!!

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-443

What do the panel think?

Can't find Mary Blair/Grant/Sneddon's d.c. Does the mother's name come into the equation? Mary Blair died after 1901.

Hi Jean,

I'll offer Janet Brown as my interpretation of her mother's name. (or could the surname be Blown - never heard of it before, but...)

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Oddly enought the entry right below is Brown too isn't it?? And the fact that the bride goes by two names...Blair or Grant.....is that significant??

Hi all

I see it as Brown too. I was hoping that it was something else!

Why Brown? Where does the Blair come from?

Where is her death?

What happened to my gg grandmother after 1901

The quest continues.

I have resurrected this post to give JACK a great big public thank you =D> =D> =D>

Unbeknown to me Jack was searching for info on my behalf.

He found my gg granny's d.c. at Park Circus. She died in 1909 in Coatbridge. No sign of this on SP.

However parents are shown as Willaim Blair and Isabella Brown

The name Brown must have rung bells for Jack, because he found that Isabella Brown had a sister Janet Brown. Janet Brown is my Mary Blair's mother's name. Couldn't understand why Mary Blair's mother was Janet Brown and her father was Alexander Grant!!!!

Jack found Mary Blair in 1851 aged 7 shown as daughter of William Blair and Isabella Blair m.s. Brown. In 1861 Isabella and William are living at 64 South Row Gartsherrie. No Mary but her address at the time of her marriage in 1866 was 64 Gartsherrie.

So it looks as if Janet's sister Isabella and her husband William Blair took in/adopted the young Mary and she was known as Mary Blair.

So, up till now I have my ggg granny's name confirmed as Janet Brown and I know that her sister Isabella Brown brought up my gg granny, Mary Blair.

Jack has given me census details on Isabella and William and their children so work to be done there I do feel.

Now for the great find Jack doesn't know about this yet, he will read it here, although I will p.m. him to make sure he sees this, after all this time.

Isabella's d.c. shows her parents names so I have my gggg grandparents names now. A look on the IGI gave a number of submissions but no extracts. Wild thought..........Look for a death after 1855 for them. Bearing in mind that they were born c. 1777. SHE IS THERE in the magical year of 1855. Never had one of them before. Eight children are shown there. My Janet had died before 1855, so that will be why Mary was brought up by Isabella. This death cert shows the parents names so I now have my ggggg grandparents!!!

What a day this has been   Just have to inform the better half that the credit card is about to be hammered again

Jack, what can I say, my biggest ](*,) is now a tiny pile of dust. Thank you seems so inadequate.

Hi Jean,

How exciting for you! Congratulations on breaking down such a big brick wall.
You give hope to all of us.

What a difference there is in an ancestors dying in 1854 and 1855.

Hello Jean,

a great result through some diligent and selfless work by Jack. One thing to mention is that Mary Blair's death is on SP. Despite clear handwriting and Sneddon being written 3 times, she was indexed under Blair and Smith.

Please fill out a form reached through "Contact Us", and the category is "Index and Image don't match". Let them know how many credits you wasted looking at deaths that were not your gg-granny.

Regards,

John
