Help find death record.....

I wonder if any one could tell me why I can't find a d.c. on ScotlandsPeople:-
I am trying to get the d.c. for a Margaret Gillan c1823-c1890, maiden name Gillan, yes same name, she was born in Ireland moved here with hubby William in 1851, William died 1879, St Rollox, but no trace of Margaret!!!

One answer to your question is that Margaret might have returned to Ireland after her husbands death.

One or two questions that come to mind. I share them with you.

Did you find them on the 1871 census and if so where were they living?
On William's dc is he noted as married or widowed?
Have you searched for Margaret on the 1881 Census?
Have you widened your search beyond the geographical area where you expected to find her? And allowing for the age being a few years out?
Have you used wild cards? G*l*n for example? Or different possible spellings or abreviations of Margaret?
Did they have any children and if so have you any marriages which might indicate that she is still alive at a particular date?

There is no immediate Margaret Gillan in the 1881 but could this be your Margaret with her brother and son?

I think she is on the 1881 census, staying with her sons family, in old monkton , but can't find her after that.
