Lots of questions but first one is - did you find Thomas's birthplace from 1891 census?
What was the son's (Sarah Kelly's) first name and year of birth.

Is there an outside chance that Thomas got his parents wrong.

John and Sarah/Sally (Kennedy Kennedy) are around with the family in 1841 and 1851

The only Thomas of the rightish age, 5, in 1861 is staying with and aunt and uncle, Alexander and Janet Frazer.

This Thomas WAS born in 1855 but his parents were Thomas and Margaret Frazer.

Another Thomas, aged 2 is at home with parents John and Sarah Mackintosh who married in Boleskine in 1845. You'll find his probable birth as Ewan in 1859 in Dores.

Here's the Kennedy/Kennedy family in 1841:

Piece: SCT1841/92 Place: Boleskine&Abertarf-Inverness-shire Enumeration District: 4
Civil Parish: Boleskine&abertarff Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 4 Page: 4
Address: Paddockfield

Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
KENNEDY Janet F 60 Poor Inverness-shire
KENNEDY Janet F 35 Inverness-shire
Page: 4/5 KENNEDY Donald M 20 Ag Lab Inverness-shire
MCDONALD Duncan M 9 Inverness-shire
KENNEDY John M 25 Ag Lab Inverness-shire
KENNEDY Sally F 20 Inverness-shire
KENNEDY Donald M 4m Inverness-shire

In 1851

John Kennedy 39 Farmer born Boleskine
Sarah wife 34
Donald 10
Ann 8
Janet 6
Margaret 4
Kenneth 2

This is the John Sarah (Kennedy) Kennedy

However, this is John and Sarah McIntosh's children:

1. CHRISTY KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 21 SEP 1855 Dores, Inverness, Scotland
2. ISABELLA KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 25 APR 1864 Dores, Inverness, Scotland
3. EWEN KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 17 FEB 1859 Dores, Inverness, Scotland
4. JOHN KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 28 MAY 1861 Dores, Inverness, Scotland
5. DONALD KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 31 OCT 1867 Dores, Inverness, Scotland
6. MARY KENNEDY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 25 APR 1864 Dores, Inverness, Scotland

They were married in 1845 in Dores and had 2 boys and two girls by Christy's birth in 1855.

In 1861 they were in Dores

John 56
Sarah 36
Alex 12
Christy 5
Thomas 2

Sarah (MacKintosh) Kennedy died in 1900

Thomas was born in Boleskine Inverness I worked out 1856 by his age on Marriage cert to Agnes McNiven the son was John born 1880 according to his age in his marriage cert in 1901 in the 1891 census it states his birthplace was Greenfield I assumed it was greenfield Burnbank which lies between Blantyre and Hamilton and comes under Lanark I have been searching for his birth for 3 years first checked out in Edinburgh then Park Circus and Scotlands people with no luck

John was born in 1881 in Hamilton mother Elizabeth Carey father Thomas Kennedy.

They were living in Hamilton in 1881.

Elizabeth died in Blantyre in 1883

You won't find a marriage in Scotland for Thomas and Elizabeth Carey they jumped the broom in 1877 in County Tyrone Ireland.

Thomas age in 1881 23 = birth year of 1858
Thomas age at second marriage in 1883 24

Hi Annette,

I got the 1841 stuff from FreeCen.

Hi Mocam,

Have you managed to track down your Thomas in 1861? If so where is he?

I could only find two Thomas Kennedys aged 0 to 6 in Inverness one had had a John and Sarah as parents but I am 99.9+% sure that this Sarah was Sarah McIntosh.

In 1871 widow Sally (McIntosh) Kennedy is found in Dores with 5 children, Thomas 12 is working as a farm servant very nearby.
