The Donald family.....

Post by Dennis » Sat Apr 08, 2006 2:20 am

Hi:)

I just uploaded the 1851 census for the Donald family, of which there is an Adam Donald age 3. I've been unable to locate any birth record for him.

I'll place the url here once its been approved.

Hi Dennis

Yup you're right. A quick search on the IGI and I can't find the record either. Nor one for his little brother Robert. Remember you're dealing with an 1851 census here and therefore birth records in the OPR's which are far from complete. While there are surviving records from Stirling Stirlingshire for the time frame involved their names are not listed. The only consolation is you have this 1851 census return and since they are quite young you can narrow up their birth year to within 1 year with almost certain accuracy. And since the family were still living in Stirling in 1851 you have to assume they recalled correctly where the births occured.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Annette,

That is an 1851 page. The head of the names column says "Name and Surname of each Person who abode in the house on the Night of the 30th March, 1851". The year is a little unclear, but it is an 1851 page rather than 1861. An 1861 page has the shortened version "Name and Surname of each Person".

All the best,

AndrewP

I had another look (I had saved it to my computer) Dennis must have asked for help on the 1861 too and I've looked at the wrong file.
Must have a clear out!

Kind regards,

Hi Annette,

Yes it is just the 1851 census where Adam Donald is aged 3, he's the one I am trying to find a birth record on.
