Missing Birth Record.....

Post by marilyn morning » Sun Mar 06, 2005 8:19 am

James Morning's age is listed in the 1881 British Census as living at 18 High Street , Renfrew at the age of 16 years old, b. about 1865? He m. in 1889 age 23 approx. b. 1866 and he d. 1904 at the age of 34 making his birth approx. 1870. Searched for his birth on SP and had four between 1855-1875, with -0- results. James's father is David Morning. David's 1st marriage was on 11 July 1872 to Agnes Wilson. Agnes passed in 1873. David's 2nd marriage was on 21 December 1875 to Jane Rodger. David & Jane are listed as the parents of James on his d. record
of 21 May 1904 at the age of 34. Any ideas why his birth record is not showing up on SP :?:

From your description, my feeling is that James may well have been born before the marriage of David Morning and Agnes Wilson. In that case, if the father was not present at the registrar's office to acknowledge fatherhood, then the birth would probably be registered as JAMES WILSON.

A look at the online IGI showed none in Renfrew. One that showed up as a possibility was JAMES WILLISON, born to AGNES WILLISON (no father mentioned) in Mauchline, Ayrshire 27NOV1869.

We are told that the 1871 census should come online very soon. Maybe that will yield some answers for you - a more accurate age and place of birth for James.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew

Appreciate your reply. Went ahead and checked this James from your IGI lookup. Found his birth record, but it contains no new clues. James also has a sister, Elizabeth Morning a. 10 yr. as listed in the 1881 census. Checked for her birth with the "Willison" spelling with -0- results.

If anyone has a copy of the 1871 census, could you take a peak? If I wait for the census to go online, poor James may be left behind.
