Death in Leuchars Fife.....

Post by sherylbadger » Tue May 02, 2006 6:14 am

If anyone can confirm Jane Meldrum death 1868 that her maiden name was scott that would be great. I ran out of credits to buy this certificate and money doesn't grow on trees. on Scotlands people. In the Leuchars Fife area.

married a Thomas or James Meldrum? not sure as i have two certificates that compromise each other.

Any help would be great.

Also what do you do if you can't find the people you are looking for on Scotlands people ie births around 1831 in edinburgh. and i cannot find them in any census's so far.

Sheryl

Will look this up on the Fife deaths on CD and see if I can find it for you when I get home.

Later: Sheryl - I've had a look at the CD rom I've got and it shows the death of a Jane Meldrum (alias Scot) on 29/12/1833 in Leuchars. She was buried on 1/1/1834 aged 51. She was the wife of Thomas Meldrum, farmer. (OPR429-3).

There is also another death in Leuchars on 9/3/1840 (buried 14/3/1840) of Janet Meldrum. No other information. (OPR445-2).

Not sure if either of these may be related to your enquiry.

Have you seen both these births in Leuchars?

12/05/1811 SCOTT JANET JOHN SCOTT/ISABEL CUNNINGHAM F LEUCHARS 445/00 0001

01/08/1830 SCOTT JANET JOHN SCOTT/CATHERINE ANDERSON FR441 F LEUCHARS 445/00 0002

[Although the CD has deaths from OPRs prior to 1855, there are some other bits of info from MIs, Newspapers etc, which are later than 1855.]

Hi all
The Fife Deaths CDROM is a record of pre-1855 deaths, so a death in 1868 is, unfortunately, not going turn up on it. :(

Best wishes
Lesley

Sheryl

On the Fife deaths CD I've found the following ways which Meldrum seem to appear - might help you with your searches ....

Meldrum
Meldrum?
Meldrumo
Melldrum

Meldrom
Meldrome

Melderom
Melldrome

Meldram
Melldram

Meldrem
Melldrem

Mildrom
Mildrum

Suspect the variances might be down to local accents around Fife and the phonetic spellings of those writing them down.
