I'm looking for a second opinion on this death certificate for Malcolm Condie, specifically the name of the informant. It appears to read George Paterson (which fits the family) but there is a word after that - any ideas?

Hi Blythe,
My interpretation (which I am not over confident of the word following Paterson) is:
George Paterson Smith
His X mark, brother-in-law
Lumphinnans
William B Low
Registrar
Witness
The registrar had witnessed that the X mark was made by the informant who gave his name as Georgs Paterson Smith, brother-in-law of the deceased, resident of Lumphinnans.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew
Thanks for looking at the image for me. It's the word after Paterson I'm stuck on - I'd also wondered if it said Smith but just not sure. I've tried looking for George under both Smith & Paterson with no success so wondered if I'd read it wrongly.
The family is full of Patersons marrying Patersons so I was hoping George might give me an extra clue to sorting them all out!

Hi Blyth
I had a look at it - I agree with Andrew that the last name is Smith.

Ted
